Goal 3: Expand international opportunities across the state of Wisconsin
The Wisconsin Idea recognizes the university’s commitment to ensure that innovation on campus benefits the people of Wisconsin and the world. It also invites bi-directional collaboration in significant areas of teaching, research, and engagement, including those with a global reach. We will accelerate our engagement in several key areas in Madison and around the state, especially in rural Wisconsin, and direct efforts toward educational opportunity, economic growth, and entrepreneurship.
To achieve this goal, we will:
- Collaborate in the creation of international learning opportunities for K-14 students, teachers, and librarians across rural and urban Wisconsin.
- Strengthen reciprocal relationships with the First Nations of Wisconsin.
- Serve as a trusted partner in internationalization initiatives by the Universities of Wisconsin, public libraries, and community organizations.
- Enhance partnerships with international businesses and industries to support the state’s economic vitality.
- Expand classroom-to-career pathways for UW-Madison students to engage as entrepreneurs and interns with globally-focused public and private institutions.
I will never be content until the beneficent influence of the university reaches every family in the state.

Partners across campus and throughout Wisconsin are working together to expand international learning opportunities, strengthen relationships with the First Nations of Wisconsin, advance internationalization across higher education, business, and civic organizations, and create new connections between the university and globally engaged industries.
