Goal 1: Enhance the UW–Madison student experience through globally-informed teaching and learning

Incorporating innovative, high-impact global learning into the student experience is part of a world-class education and creates meaningful opportunities for the acquisition of new knowledge and skills, personal growth, and the exchange of ideas for both domestic and international students. It also builds career readiness and 21st century competencies in key areas that include collaboration, critical thinking, problem-solving, and resilience as students engage with viewpoints and life experiences that are different from their own. Faculty and academic staff play a critical role in these learning processes and must have opportunities to build their own expertise in globally-informed pedagogy.

To achieve this goal we will:

• Expand access across campus to transformative international learning opportunities.
• Increase affordability for study abroad, study away, and international internship programs.
• Launch digital badges that recognize students’ competencies, skills, and knowledge in world languages, global issues, and intercultural communication.
• Create resources for faculty and academic staff to develop greater expertise in curriculum internationalization and globally-informed teaching and learning.
• Build an innovative strategy for the recruitment of international students.
• Advance initiatives that foster belonging and wellbeing for international students and scholars.
