Goal 2: Spark innovative international collaborations

Life-changing research depends upon international collaboration and interdisciplinary partnerships that bring together the best students and scholars to address the most urgent global challenges. We will leverage UW–Madison’s location in the Midwest and its distinguished history of engagement in many world regions to strengthen existing partnerships and spark new ones to advance research, business engagement, and recruitment of top-notch international faculty, staff, and students.
To achieve this goal, we will:
- Increase funding for faculty and academic staff to expand research, teaching, and creative endeavors aimed at understanding and addressing global challenges with local resonance.
- Enhance the visibility of international collaborations through rotating featured country partnerships.
- Strengthen relationships with consulates in the Midwest and diplomatic missions elsewhere in the U.S. and around the world.
- Bolster funding for graduate students to conduct international research.
Goal 2 in Action
Global research and innovation thrive through international collaboration, interdisciplinary partnerships, and sustained investment in faculty, staff, and students.
Each story highlights this goal in action, showing how international partnerships expand research, foster innovation, and create new opportunities that benefit the campus, the state, and global communities.
